The LFS told me that the Harlequin Rasorba and the Neon Tetra are of the same family and will school together. They also told me that the blue longfin danio and the zebra danio will school together. Can anyone confirm or deny this for me? Thanks.

Thank you for coming and asking the questions before taking the word of the LSF. The Rasboras and Neons are not of the same family. The Neons are of the Characidae family and the Rasboras are of the Cyprinidae family. Yes they may at times school together but don't plan on it always happening. They are both rather calm fish so there would be no problems between them. They may do alittl chasing but I would not think to the point where they hurt each other.

As for the Danios they are pretty much the same. They may or may not school together. It depends on if the tank is big enough and the personality of the fish.

Yeah, I have a antisocial tetra that likes to hang out by himself. The other tetras tried to school with him, but he'd always chase them off. He's pretty healthy and brightly colored + bigger than the rest of my neons.

Go figure.

Hmmn rasborra from SE Asia and tetra from South America from the same family? Of course this has already been answered, but no not from the same family. I haven't had any rasborra school with neons before, but I did have some gold tetra before that schooled with harlequin rasborra. It must have been something about the body shape being similar because I know it wasn't the color.
