Texas Holey Rocks

Yip, Nate is right. They are limesone and Limestone will bump your pH up some. They are interesting looking and of course some people really like that they have holes so smaller cichlids can have their caves. I would imagine shipping on rocks is a real PITA though. I live in West Texas and we have these things, but our water is just too alkaline already to be adding limestone to it.
 
Harlock, I've been meaning to ask you...

I notice you're from W. Texas. My uncle lives in Amarillo and the tap water there is barely drinkable to me. He uses bottled for drinking and the water's so full of dissovled solids, water heaters go south in short order.

Do you filter your water? Or is it that you just keep the parameters stable and not worry so much about the chemistry, given the fish you keep...

Amarillo is north of me by a few hours. I don't drink tap water unless Kool-Aid is added with lots of sweetener. We drink RO water. Our water heaters stop working after about 4 years. I keep my tank parameters stable and since I am mostly into my mollies, the gH of 420 and alkaline conditions aren't bad. If I ever decided to breed other fish, I'd likely end up mixing RO and tap.
 
Ok. Thanks for the info. I was just curious because my uncle lives around there. (Albeit a few hours away, but by Texas standards, that's next door. :-)
