I've convinced a friend that the wet/dry filter that he has for a 125 reef tank needs to have the bio-balls removed. (this is info gleaned from the forum) What do we do now?

The tank has a plenum and a DSB of 4" of Wallie World sand. Water and salt were added tonight. He is talking about putting floss where the balls are. I think that's probably defeating the purpose of removing the balls, and he is using the trickle part in the filter.

100 lbs of Marshall live rock is coming this week. Before it gets here, it would be great to have a plan for the best use of the filter.

Both of us are as green as grass (algae??) and need some expert advice? Thanks!!!!!!

He's getting some hopefully very alive live rock tomorrow. Can he put any unwanted hitchhikers in there? Seems like I read something about that.

Also, does he need to remove the trickle part of the filter?
