So true! The margins for the oil companies per unit gallon sold are very, very tight. Also, if one lives on either of the coasts of America, the state gas taxes are rather considerable. I last paid $2.69 for regular, here in OK. The specific energy of the fuel makes a small difference in the "apparent" price...using gas from CITGO, I get about 50 more miles per fill-up (about 16 U.S. gallons) than from other brands, so their gas, which is reasonably priced to begin with, is actually less expensive. Getting 370 miles in purely city driving from a less-than-aerodynamic and somewhat heavy minivan on that amount of "go-juice" is kind of surprising.
