The Mithrax sculptus (Emerald crab) journal

Well, first thing put them into seperate containers! How big is your tank they should get along as far as I know but, in that container there is no way for one of them to back down.

calming down now..

They seem to have calmed down now. They all have their backs to each other, lol. I have a 30 gallon reef tank. Would 2-3 of them be okay in there?

I wouldn't do more than the two I have they are pretty good at eating algae.

I'm having trouble telling if they're male or female... any tips?
They have paired off into groups of 2 now... I guess they each found a buddy except one lonely little crab, lol.

Females have a wider tail and their belly looks like 6 pack the males looks like an arrow sort of it comes to a point. You sure do have a bunch of emeralds for a 30 gal they get pretty decent sized you'll have to feed them in pretty short order. I'd see if I could take some back to the lfs IMO if that's the only tank you're putting them in.

Kept 2

I coordinated a group buy on snails, nudibranch, and emeralds.
I only kept 2 of them... In the end I just grabbed 2 and threw them in the tank, lol. They all looked like females to me, so I got frustrated. I kept a beefy looking one and a smaller looking one... good enough guessing for
me ;-)
They haven't eaten any of my bubble algae yet...

Can anyone set my mind at ease and tell me they are completely reef safe & won't bother/eat any of the corals or shrimp??

They may not some of them don't like it ime. Some will some won't but, they all go for hair algae so it's not a total loss either way. It might take them a little time befor they start on the valonia.
