Is it just me or have you guys noticed the atrocious spelling these younger people use.I don't mean typos I mean actual spelling. Also the misuse of words such as weather when it should be whether.

They don't use paragraphs, all the sentences run on,etc.

I know I'm not prefect on everything either, but I try.Its a lot easier for someone to help you when they don't need to deciphre the code.

I know this isn't english class or an essay, but it worries me that we'll have more people working at McDonalds then we do in corporations.

Is it our education system or just laziness on the person to learn?

Are we going to be forced to import people from other countries to run our own country?

I don't think our education system is to blame. I think that there are a lot of people in this country who just have a hard time with spelling, proper sentence structure, grammar, etc. Plus there is also a whole new generation of younger people out there who have never lived without the internet, a lot of these people use chatroom "lingo" in every day life whether in a chat room or trying to get their point across in a forum.

As for the fear of us "mass producing" McDonalds employees, this is not a fear that will ever be realized. Just a couple things as examples:
The graduating class of 2005 has proven excellence with the highest SAT Math scores in history.
Each year enrollment at Universities around the United States is increasing

We might lag behind some European/Asian countries with our education system, but I believe we are making continued strides towards improvement. With the continued focus being on reforming the U.S. education system I believe that we are moving in the right direction. Our youth are our future! Support them!

There have been posts on this before. Always good to see other people that to see "real" words used...as I've said before..
This isn't AIM chat...and I know you(they) have english class in school...practice it here. This isn't just a kids only site...
Anyone I've seen on here from another country usually does a great job at making themselves understood. It's the ones that FAKE being from another country that really tick me off. (yes..we have those.. )

Why on Earth would someone fake being a foreigner? Some people need to find better things to do with their time!!

I disagree.

Oh yes the "system" is to blame.
"Teachers Unions".
Yes.
For sure.
Incompetence.
For sure.

Some, if not many, are inadequate to or unsuitable for teaching!

First of all, I just want to say that I do not support any union in any way.

But.......

Okay, I wasn't going to get into this because I know it will hit a nerve with someone. My reasoning behind not blaming the system is simple:
It all starts at home folks!

The nation as a whole is trying to improve our educational system, but it doesn't matter what Joe Blow in the capitol does, it all comes down to the way that children are raised. I was raised to value education, to have a hunger for knowledge, to go the extra mile, and to make something of myself. So to amend my earlier post, I would like to say that part of the reason falls on parenting, it's just not what it used to be!

I'll agree with that to a point.

I do notice that a lot of parents don't check their kids homework much less make sure they even do it.

My kids BS around so much it takes them from the time they get home till bedtime to do their homework. But they do it and I check it.

I try telling them to just do it and get it overwith so they can do other things but its in one ear out the other. As long as their grades don't suffer I guess its okay.

My kids school counts homework as part of their grade,so I guess thats an incentive for the kids to do it or fail the year.

I'm blessed enough that my kids go to one of the best schools in the state.

In every forum I post in (quite a few) I try my best to use proper grammar and spelling. I really don’t like using acronyms to say something. I think that the people who post here should at least make their typing legible so we can actually understand what they're trying to say. Otherwise we cannot help them, which is something they obviously need.

I don’t think that it is any lack of education, but an abundance of laziness on their part.

Just my two cents.

Ice, my dear, some may say that a lack of proper spacing between punctuation upsets them - much like spelling seems to annoy you. :)

That said, this is an internet forum, not a peer-reviewed scholarly publication. I make mistakes here that I don't even consider fixing because it just doesn't matter. Would I let those mistakes go unfixed in an article? Of course not. Here? Sure. Granted, it vexes me to see things such as "wut r u up 2 2day?" That's just plain weird, to me.

As for blaming the educational system for all of our nation's woes....that's just plainly the easy route. Is it perfect? Heck no. But nothing ever is. Why don't some of you consider getting your teaching licenses/certification and degree and go out and teach???
