Hey, I just got a new addition to my African Cichlid tank, however, I'm not sure what he is! Any suggestions?

first one is Melanochromis sp. (chipokae i think). second one could be any of numerous Pseudotropheus species.

I think that's the same fish liv2padl

i don't think so ... look again. in the second picture the Melanochromis is in back of the Pseudotropheus. trust me. no Melanochromis ever looked like that light blue fish unless it was dead. :o

thanks guys! way to go DeRo. Those do look like my guys. the Metriaclimas turn a yellowish sometimes too. is that normal? The pike has two egg spotts, would this be a male or female for this species?

+ how do I get my new pike (top guy) to stop diggin up all my sand?!

About the pike: "Males have a dark blue body with light blue bars The females have much more distinctive, yellow and black coloration."
Good article on pikes

The pike can be quite aggressive until it matures more so it could just be picking on the zebra causing the colors to change a little.

hahaha, and yes all cichlids dig. I have gravel and they even dig through that. Soon Im going to add some sand to make it more natural for them, it was a SA tank so I used gravel.

Thanks everybody. I understand that they are gonna dig but this one is crazy! I had a nice setup with rocks and such and this guy thinks hes gonna make the tank how HE wants it! lol.

nice looking fish Devon... and it seems the tank is pretty cool looking too.... any chance we can see a full shot of it?

I've got a not-so-recent pic of the tank on my profile page. I will take another one once I fix what my digger is doin.
