Ok, i'm super excited......
dad and i went to a new pet shop he found the other day (i love it how he hunts um down for me, lol) and we found this great place that had ENORMOUS VARIETY of SW, BW, and FW fish and inverts! best of all, they had some unbelievable deals on tanks and stand combos; ie, a 55 g w/ stand for about 100 dollars. the best part, aside from the price, is th fact that it is a dual stand, which means that i can throw in another tank below. it gets better.....
course now you're probably thinking, "oh, what else can this guy put in there, everything short of a ten gallon would be too tall"
not so! the LFS also had an unusual tank models for 30 and 40 gallons that fit directly under the 55 stand. its a long and shallow tank, which is perfect, because the surface area propotional to the volume should be great for oxygen.
so, reasonable, for about 200 dollars, i could get a 55 and a 40 gallon tank w/ stand. Also, they had another similar setup with two regular model 30's that were on top of each other, and dad mentioned they would be perfect for the gap on the wall in the sunroom.
(we were going to put in a corner tank, but we ran out of corners
, and the windows were too low...)
And, as i figure, the way my room (empty i might add as well, ) is setup, i can fit two of those stands for the 55's with the dual shelving for the 30/40 gallon tank below, AND, put the double 30 setup in the sunroom, it should give me a max of 305 gallons of total system in the whole house.
(this of course, is not to mention all the smaler tanks that you know will eventually find themselves littered in every other free space, lol)
anyhow, for all yo connecticut folks, the LFS name is WET PETS, and i believe it is located in rocky hill or vernon, and the quality is amazing.
they had tons of FW fish, and they had literally walls of SW around every corner and little nano's tucked into every free spot. tons of exotic wrasses, clowns, and a huge grouper w/ some squirrelfish. they had tons of semi-reefs, and one huge bad arse green moray that had to have been over 5 feet long and as thick as my dads arm. lets see what else, ohh yeah, they had a few rare tangs and some angels, as well as a panther grouper, niger trigger, and some prety puffer's with big blue eyes. (porcupine)
the FW had some AMAZING discus, and though pricey, would be worth it to me. they alos had tons of cichlids ffrom just about everywhere.
their BW was impressive, with dozens of baby scats, and a decent shoal of columbian cats, and some monos.
they also had some larger plecos for the FW, and some great schoolers likethe various types of tetras, etc.
they had TONS equipment and dry goods like foods, and they carried loads of frozen foods including DT's PHYTOPLANKTON, which is a plus for all you salties.
-------------------------------
anyway, seeing more and more easy DIY LR recipies, i've been thinking of manufacturing my own to alleviate some of the costs of maintanance, etc. breeding FW wouldn't be too bad to get into either...
what would you do with a bedroom FULL wall-to-wall with fish tanks?
