The Transparent Tank!

haloween tank, Cool idea

I was gonna try and do something like this. You can also get albino fish, similar effect.

I have some glass catfish, and I put a big blacklight on them, and they didn't really glow very well. Like their eyes and a few organs, but their skeletons didn't glow at all. My pictus catfish glows more than anything.

How Bout Some Albino Cory cats?

My 55 is currently stocked with a dozen glass cats, 8 debaui cats, Amano and cherry red shrimp (sorry, but they do a better job than Ghosts). But then, I do sort of specialize in invisible fish.

get some glass drinking glasses and place them sideways buried halfway into the gravel to provide some "clear" caves.

Great ideas.

So, all I can come up with are:

Transparent:
Glass Catfish (2 species)
Albino Glass Catfish
Glass Fish (2 species)
Ghost Shrimp
X-Ray Tetra (Pristella Tetra)
Prionobrama filigera (Glass Bloodfin)
Gobiopterus chuno (Glass Goby)
Leucopsarion petersii (Ice Goby)

Semi-Transparent:
Glass Knifefish
Glowlight Tetra
Rasbora Axelrodii
Kiunga ballochi
Pseudomugil inconspicuus
Pseudomugil novaeguineae
Pseudomugil pellucidus <-- called "transparent Blue Eye" but pics dont look so
Belgian Flag Tetra
Black/Red Phantom Tetra
Garnet Tetra
Rose Tetra
Serpae Tetra
Rasbora urophthalmoides (glass Rasbora)

How bout a skeleton sitting on the bottom of the tank...in the black gravel !
Hmmm perhaps you could wire up some red LED's to put in the eyes of the skeleton and have them only blink on once in a while...

And don't forget the gravestone! :-)

OH! OH! I just thought of something!!! Have you ever seen a picture of the Mayan Crystal Skull of Doom that was unearthed by archaeologists in a Mayan temple somewhere in South America back in the 60's...??? I see replicas of them every once in a while... Some are made of plastic, others from glass... Perhaps you could dunk one of those in the tank, and have a whole Mayan/South American theme, with native stone tile designs laid out on the bottom of the tank like a Stonehenge kind of thing... But of course still do all the clear fish - that would be awesome...! :thm:

Here is an excellent article that tells the story of these crystal skulls:

Here is a guy who sells acrylic replicas for $25:

OR, if you happen to have $379.99 to drop, you can buy a *real* crystal skull from some "artisans" in Brazil:

Toodles! :-)
