I know that this might sound stupid of me, but my city is having fall clean-up, so my mom and dads neighbors put out a couple of tanks (2 10 gallons). They were complete setups, so I figured that I would pick them up. Heck, you can't beat free :) I brought them home and cleaned out the 10 gallon hex and set it up in my bedroom. After I filled it up with water, I noticed a very very strong bleach smell, it was so bad that it burned your nose. I asked my boyfriend to smell it just to see if it was just me, and he smelled it too.
Is there anything that I can do to get rid of the bleach or should I just throw the tank out? There is nothing in it except water, gravel and the filter that came with it. It's no skin off my back if I need to get rid of them. Just wanna know if there is anything that I can do. Will tons of declorinator work? Or do I just need to very heavily wash the tank with hot water?

Just put in some dechlor. Using bleach to clean a tank is pretty common, not something to criticize them for. If it was regular bleach, the chlorine will eventually gas off anyone--this can take a while if it's a porous object, like wood. Don't put in tons of dechlor though--use a normal dose for the volume, and if you can still smell bleach, repeat as needed.

Also, if you will let the tank dry in the sun, the remaining chlorine will go away.

I'd also like to say that on most smooth surfaces, bleach comes out pretty easily. You can feel it when it is on your things, and you can feel when it is rinsed off. I also use oxi-clean on many aquariums/aquarium accessories and this too has always rinsed right off.
