What kind of things do you guys find in your filter when you clean it out once in a while?

When i was cleaning my filter i left it on the counter for about 10min so i can finish my gravle vac, i came back to see water puddles on the counter but i just thought it was dirty water, then i looked closer i saw a bunch of tiny red worms, over 10000! cause the water in the puddle was actualy clear but for the areas where worms are swarming around, i dont see these guys in the tank so what could they be?

I dunno bout the worms but one of my tiny green-eye rasboras often gets sucked up into my aquaclear HOB filter. I dont know how he survives going through the impeller and then being propelled into a sponge, but he always comes out unscathed... i think he enjoys the ride. He is the only fish in my tank small enough to fit through the intake.

I've found Corydoras fry, and once a dragonfly larvae, which I have NO idea how that got in there! I was lucky it got sucked into the filter though, or it would have eaten my poor fish! Threw it into the pond, horrible looking thing!

i find hair and lots of it ...lol am considering wearing a hair net when i mess with the tanks lol i bet id look hillariuos with a hair net a big pair of yellow gloves and my tank apron ..heheh

those little red worms may be bloodworms AKA Mostiqito larva, bugs like dragonflies and mosqitos spawn over water and theyr young grow in ponds and rivers, a mosiqito could have laid its eggs in your tank and over night it go sucked into the filter and they grew there. I feed my angels and cherry barbs frozen blood worms...:-) Once i found my female fiddler crab in the filter, she climbed out through the tubing and crawed inside to find a hiding place :-) good thing she was to big to fit where the blades were, she wouldnt been sushi!

I found my freshwater moray eel in my filter once. It was the strangest thing because there was no way for it to have gotten in without first going completely out of the water, and then thru the little opening. i have an out of tank filter.... It really freaked me out to go to change the filter and see something squirming around in the water... :dive:
