Thinking about changing substrate

How much sand are we talking here? I got some awesome play sand -- darn GOOD play sand -- for our bearded dragons on line. It was 50 pounds of sand for 50$ and that included shipping.

Only drawback was that delivery can take 2 weeks. It was 1 week for my sand.

If anyone is interested I'll post the link when I get back from picking up my daughter from school.

I'm going to have to disagree with OG. I put cories into two tanks at about the same time this year and the tank with cheap sharp gravel from a 50 pound sack at Home Depot did definitely injure their barbels while at the same time the nice rounded expensive blue LFS gravel didn't hurt them at all.

I switched the rough rocks out for sand and the fish healed quickly. It wasnt' water quality because if anything I'm doing less PWC now than I was then.

I have brown sand in a couple of my tanks.....I dont notice the debris anymore than gravel.

Like I said, the debris will show more with black sand. Using brown sand would have been a better choice since it's the same color as poo.

Another question is: how deep is your sand susbtrate? Mine is fairly 1 inch deep.
