We're in the middle of setting up a 46 gl bowfront....we've already started the cycling process....

Our substrate is play sand - first time we've used it in a tank - and it's just occured to me  that adding plants later might be a little difficult.

I was thinking tho that I could get little terracotta plates and/or pots and set those into the sand.

I should use fluorite? in the plates/pots and plant the plants in that, correct? Just use it by itself or add something else and then the plant?

Many thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

You could just buy something like the seachem pellets and place them near the plants. You can pot the plants if you want. Some people do that also. Planting the tank now would be a great idea. It will give you something to work on while the cycle progresses. Rather than sitting around worrying about bacteria you can sit around worrying about the plants and their care. Then later on you can add some of those nutrient delivery systems people call fish.
