Thinking of going brackish

I have an 85 gallon tank with a few cichlids and was thinking of moving the cichlids and turing it into a brackish tank. Is it any more difficult to maintain a brackish tank than a freshwater? I was thinking of turining it into an archer tank. Any feedback will be appreciated.

Just more difficult in that you need to monitor the salinity and clean off salt-creep....otherwise, just as easy.

Brackish is easy as pie.

There are some real upsides to brackish tanks.

1) Brown Diatom Algae which is the kind seen in backish tanks is very very easy to clean/eradicate
2) Few parasites can survive the salinity
3) Since you are in the unique transition from fresh to salt, few common dieseses are brackish
4) Some of the coolest fish are brackish, 3-eyes, mudskippers, puffers, asian cichlids, moray eels, etc

I wanted to turn it into an archer tank. What would be some good tankmates for them? Also a good cleanup crew?

85 is a little small for archers, esp if you want to make a proper environment with branches and whatnow.

Archers get to a foot long usually. usually 100G + is good for a group of em.

How long do you think I could keep three of them in an 85 gallon?
quite a while I would imagine, depending on how low the water is, if you didnt create the optimum habitat they would do fine, if you want to create a mangrove swamp, a larger tank might be needed. Plus in a larger tank = more archers, they are a tight schooling fish, and watching them work together is one of natures mysteries. These fish can work together to shoot down insects.

Most magrove setups I have seen range from 110-200G.

What is the best way to erdicate it?
