I might as well throw in a few thoughs.

Archers are cool. Very cool, and that's the exact reason you shouldn't get them unless you can provide the correct environment from the beginning. Keeping them in a tank that's too small puts you at a disadvantage.

1. They are specialist fish. Not very common and will not be easy to sell off or even give away. Likely they would end up in a tank even smaller than yours.

2. How difficullt will it be to part with them in the first place? Pretty hard I'd imagine if they were full grown and have been with you a few years.

How to keep diatoms at bay? Well nerite snails might be an option if you don't get puffers. I can also grow java fern, vals and bacopa in my F8 tank if I keep it around 1.004. Since I started adding the plants my diatoms have virtually disappeared.
