This sickens me!!!!

The problem these days are if you "over correct them" then you are a child abuser, but if you sit back and watch them, then you're an easy going parent "no wonder they turned out like that". Catch 22 aye. I'll say this, I'm 50 and my Dad is 74 and if to this day if I would do something like that, lord help me. I would get an a!@ wipping from him even at his age. Thanks Pop.

LONG BEACH, Calif. — Four young teens.....

Police say three 13-year-olds and one 14-year-old were arrested while trying to break into the aquarium a second time Monday night. They're being held on suspicion of animal cruelty and trespassing.

Finally, some suspects to blame all those cattle mutilations on!

Anyway, they deserve a few weeks at sea during Winter up north, on a commercial shrimp/fishing boat! May the weather be unfavorable...

This is the perfect case for an eye for an eye!!! Make an example of them and fewer bored teens will be as stupid.

Did I just type that??????? :p

What if some one were to do the same in your home with you tanks? What if they did the same thing at a kennel with some pups or kittens, would you say the same thing?
yes, I would say the exact same thing

just because a puppy and kitten are cute and cuddly it bewilders me how people value their life more than a mouse, rat, or cricket...

The only thing that sickens me about this story is the fact that 13 and 14 year olds were out and about late enough to break into a zoo and do this. What kind of parents do these kids have? I agree with OG... if they were my kids, not only would they be paying me back for the money I'd have to shell out to the zoo, but they'd be going to counseling as well.

The deaths of the sharks and ray are sad, but not the sickening part of the story by a long shot. (For once! ;) ) I agree with geoff.

It sickens me that the kids would find this for fun.

It sickens me that they will probably get a hand slap (hopefully not!!).

Sickens might not be the right word I guess - but it does indeed make me mad.

I do think that killing a cricket is the same as killing a cat or shark. But that is me. I am not an animal activist. However, feeding a cricket to a lizard is just the food chain and not killing it. So I would do that.

Yes I hold all my pets highly and worry about them just like familly - because they are family.

If these kids had stepped on 3 crickets nobody would care...
or if they had tossed 3 goldfish into a birdcage...

it seems there is a double standard for any animal greater than 6" in length...
I think the difference arrises from the fact that generally as animals get larger, their capacity for thought increases, and they're more likely to comprehend what's happening to them. If you scowl at your dog, he's probably going to stop what he's doing and try to suck up to you. Not only does he appear bothered that you're upset with him, it makes him seem more human-like. On the other hand, you can scowl/scream/curse at a house fly all you want, and he'll keep trying to eat your food until you kill him.

Yeah, thats a pretty good point. I read stuff like "my fish follow me at the front of the tank when i come into the room because they're my friends" and "my fish are so happy" and "my fish wink at me when i come to feed them" and "my fish are in a sad mood, what should i do?". I think these guys overrate their fishes intelligence.

Next time the aquarium should purchase a couple tiger sharks.
LOL, 13 and 14 year old boys for dinner. At least the aquarium doesn't have to feed them for a while.

I dont agree, animal abuse is animal abuse, regardless of the animal. I do however believe that most people feel only 'cute' animals can be abused. And I bet many people do not see what these kids did as wrong. If they did this to dolphins however...

I think the 6" deal has more to do with how many insects (and other small animals) there are and how many we kill or injure on a daily basis, most of which isnt intentional. If we were driving and hit three sharks on the way, well maybe we would feel the same...
