This is my girlfriends employer. They are slowly losing money in the race horse industry and are looking to get rid of 60+ thoroughbreds. They are mostly mares, yearlings and weanlings. The contact information is on the website if you are interested or you can PM me and I can give you some more information. They will be picky as to what these horses are used for, they obviously don't want them to head somewhere that they won't be cherished for the quality race stock they are.

Help us place these magnificent creatures in new homes!

unfortunately there are not that many homes for them as there used to be,.. many horses are abandoned for lack of money to feed them,. here I'm just a few miles from the race track and people want rid of them if they don't win every time. they find some way to get them to the packing house,.. even ridding horses are left at peoples trailers when they trail ride in attempts to ease the burden of paying for feed and hay,.. i also have a horse and pony and am trying to find them homes in case things get worse here,.. so far so good,. but the price of really good stock is just a pittance anymore what used to be 5000.00 is now free to good home only, or just a few bucks,.. its frightening

good luck to them,. but this is happening at an alarming rate all over the country..

Are they wanting the horses to go to racing people or are they happy with any performance home? If they're fine with performance homes you may want to post on the Chronicle of the Horse and Ultimate Dressage BB forums. TBs aren't as popular as they used to be for sporthorses, but if the prices are right and the horses are nice and sound I'm sure you'll get some interest.

Maybe people shouldn't be breeding animals at such staggering rates...

Of course, you can't trust most people to keep themselves from unwanted pregnancies, let alone have the foresight or wisdom to prevent animal overpopulation.

This statement has absolutely no bearing on this situation. This is not a situation of uncontrolled breeding, this is a business that is slowly failing because of the economy and to properly care for these animals requires more money than what the business brings in every month. Most of these horses were being boarded by this company and the owners could no longer afford to pay for the upkeep of them and left them in the hands of the business. This overstock of quality race horses is bleeding them dry.

On a side note, they aren't concerned with whether they are used for racing or pleasure riding, they just want to make sure they are taken into a home that will care for them properly, knows what it takes to care for a horse, the expense involved, etc. They do not want any of these to end up at a packing house.

As far as I know, they are looking for a donation only for these horses, they just want to see them properly cared for.

Sorry, I should have been more specific--my comment was in response to what Dixienut said.

I do wish you good luck with finding homes. I happen to be riding an off-track TB right now and he is a wonderful western pleasure and trail horse. The versatility of the breed is on your side.

I suggest we just keep the thread on track.

Good luck and best wishes
I hope they find good homes
