So the doughnut thread got me thinking. More and more people move away from their hometown. After a few years you begin missing certain specific foods, be it a type, brand, or specific store/restaurant. So where are your hometown food influences/cravings from and what are they? Hopefully this might give visitors to "your town" ideas on where to eat. Being an airline employee I have been known to fly places soley for food :-)

I'm from 1 1/2 north of NYC, and spent a lot of time in NJ as a kid as well (lots of relatives there). My lost foods are Dunkin Donuts, NY/NJ pizza (NYC pizza but softer crust), bagels (and egg, bacon, and cheese bagel sandwiches), and fresh apple cider.

well the only thing i can think of is there are a lot of small restaurants here. i would rather go to a mom and pop place then chain places like taco bell or burger king. its not just once kind of food. we have so many different types of food.

when i go visit family in AZ most everything is chain stores. they are building so fast there are very few of them around.

Chains are fine too. You've got to rememeber that there are no Del Tacos back east, nor Hardees out west.

but out west there IS Carl's Jr. which is Hardees with a different name. ;)

there isnt either up here in NE..

what i miss from california is Jack in the Box, and Carl's Jr.

Cains' potato chips in Michigan, as so Koepplinger's Bread.

I cant remember moving last time, as I was only 10 years old. However, I am moving in about a year to a more suburban area, where its a tad farther to most stores than Im used to. But it doesnt really matter, as I of course, have a car. No more walking to stores for me then.

There arent any stores I'll particularly miss, as they're all big-brand stores; no mom and pop places here.

As long as I live near a quiznos or subway, its cool. :)

In Indianapolis
Johns hot stew
LaBambas
Just Wing'n It
St Elmos Steak house
The Claddagh (Irish Pub)

I grew up in Des Moines, Ia. I miss Tasty Taco's. If anyone here has ate there, they will understand.

I moved to Texas from North Carolina within the last year. There is no Texas Pete hot sauce in Texas. We have people send it to us. We also miss "white" chese dip versus the "yellow" they have here. I also miss the seafood.

New Orleans

Danny's Number 2 on Magazine street for roast beef po boys (best in the known universe and long as your arm)

Shaeffer's and Ruseich out in Bucktown area for ultimate potato salad and boiled crawfish

Igor's on St. Charles Ave for Greasy Goldie burgers... Bartender there for 20 years named Goldie...

Maison Du Puy on Rue Toulouse for Lemon Brioche and Crawfish Aoili ( I used to chef there)

Hummingbird Cafe off Degaul Circle for Bread pudding and Bourbon Creme

Tippitina's for deep fried softshell crabs and good music..

Sigh... there's no place like home, most of those spots drowned...
