i just put 4 of these guys in my tank tonight. 2 of them stay about mid tank and kind of hover sort of diagnoly with their head down. the other 2 stay close to the surface and none of them do much swimming. are they just getting used to their new place, or not liking it?

the 2 cory cat seem to be very energetic and having a good time. they are new too

how did you acclimate them?
could be they are just trying to get use to the new tank

I have barbs and when they sleep they headstand.

as you can see from my other post, one had a bad experience getting transfered in. he jumped out to the floor! he's been hiding near the top by where the filter comes in. i see him venture out now and then but then he goes back to his spot by the filter

i also noticed some of them doing back flips... like they'll start sinking upside down then do a flip. normal stuff for tiget barbs? i never had em

looks like 2 out of the 4 i bought are iffy. 2 of em stay together out in the open and seem ok. they both ate this morning. one of them stays up top by the big black filter part and just hovers near it. and the other one is hiding against the back glass and resting in a plat and kind of breathing hard

i'd say that one in the plant is a gonner... he sunk even deeper into the plant and is facing down. he fins and gills are still goin, but it doesn't look good.

what are your water parpameters(readings) ammonia, nitrite , nitrate.

I found with my barbs they like clean water..

sounds like you may have gotten some sick barbs..but it may also be that you need to check your water.

make sure your water is clean and that the parameters are suitable for tiger barbs, although they are generally very tough fish. at any rate, a partial water change wouldn't hurt and maybe some frozen bloodworms or other "treat" food would help out a little bit.
good luck!
