OK So I have 3 options! Since I am about to set up two more tanks.
Currently I have 6 small tiger barbs in a 10 gal that I realize may need to be moved once they reach larger sizes but for now the guys are doing good. They only have one other companion a Gold CAE that will also move as time permits his growth.

My dilemma is I will be setting up a 45 gal and a 20 gal in the next two weeks to start cycling and I would IDEALLY like to move out the tiger barbs but ONLY if they get along with some other community fish. I want to replace the barbs with either my calico platies or fancy tail guppies. My 10 gal is in my office so I wanted a lil more variety of fish.

Anyone with experiance of Tiger barbs in a community tank? or should I sit down and cry because they will forever be a species only tank? So far I have had BAD luck with my cories in there but they never bother the Gold CAE.

THANKS! :dive:

Tron, I also have 6 TB's in a 10g with two Otos.....they are getting the 29g when My RBP's get the 75....I think that since TB's are fin-nippers, you might have problems with TB's and FT's...LMAO Tron, TB's aren't species only...dork

With 6 i think you should be ok. I had 5 in my community tank and they never ever bothered any of the other fish. Now I have 8 and its fun to watch them swim in a pack and chase each other around. None of my fish have messed up tails at all.

It was funny when I added my clown loaches because the tiger barbs would follow them around the tank wonder what they were. They wouldn't bite, they would just swim really slow behind them. So my clown loach would be looking around on the ground and my 3 big barbs would be right above him just staring at him.

What else do you have in your Community tank with the Tiger barbs besides loaches?

Do you think a pair of powder blue Gourami's are good? I was thinking of some Yellow Lab's or maybe some other dwarf Cichlads and a small pleco breed like a gold nugget.

Torn, before ich wiped out my beloved green tiger barbs, I had them in a community tank with dwarf neon rainbows and black skirt tetras. They did beautifully, never chased anyone else. I still miss them, they were my favorite fish. The tetras and rainbows survived the ich and treatment, I will replace the barbs some day. :)

i had in 29 with various tertra and i agree as long as they are kept in a larger school they are pretty fun to watch and non agressive

Well I had 7 and one pretty much killed the other 6. Now all I have is one tiger barb and a black ruby barb. They hardly acknowlage each other.
