I have a small school of 6 tiger barbs, and they always seem to like it when I turn off the lights. My Dad thought that they didn't like light, so he wanted to buy a UV light. I want to make sure it won't affect the other fish, so here's a list of them:

Opaline Gourami (male)
Gold Gourami (female)
Powder Blue Dwarf Gourami (male)
Emerald-Green Corydoras
Elegant Corydoras
Albino Corydoras
6 Tiger Barbs

Will a UV light be a good idea? Thanks for your help. :D

uv lights are used in sterilizers to kill bacteria and floating things like the algea that makes your water green, these things are closed like a canister filter so only the water is given the uv and not the fish.... it probbably wouldn't kill your fish but it could cause problems just like that wavelength from the sun gives us a sunburn....

now as to the tigerbarbs not likeing the light, there could be a number of reasons....
when the light is on in the tank and it is darker in the room the glass will look like a mirror to them and they can't see what you are doing as well.....
some fish like cardinal tetras live in the wild mostly in areas shaded by trees so they stay away from bright light

some plants or something they can 'hide' under or behind might make them more comfortable... it doesn't have to be a solid object just something that makes them feel more comfortable
