Tiger barb tank mates?

I'm setting up a new 36 gal tank, and i was wondering about good tank mates for tiger barbs. I currently have 5 barbs, but i will get more if more are needed to keep them calm. I was thinking about getting a ruby shark and a pair of dwarf gouramis, but i'm not sure yet.

I posted the same thread on the newbies board, but i thought i might get more hits on this one. i hope nobody minds...

I had a 10 gallon with a few tiger barbs. The only other type of fish that I had with them was some cherry barbs also. I found that the few cherry barbs that I had would actually bother the tiger barbs.

The cherry barbs was the only type of fish that I paired successfully with the tiger barbs. I had a school of neons with tiger barbs at one part but they hassled with the neons way too much. I didnt really try with any other fish that much.

many will tell you that you should stick with strictly barbs but I have angels and gourami's in with my 2 tigers and 2 albino tigers, also I have a betta.....they all get along fine, but in the end its up to you.....

how about some odeesa barbs i have 2 with 2 black rubys and they hang out together a little chasing but not too bad
may be corys or some upside down cats

IMO Barbs are best kept with other barbs. Like i mentioned in the other thread a nice shoal of chain loaches could work well with them.
