I am re-setting up my 10 gallon aquarium to stock with 4-5 tiger barbs and a zebra pleco. The LFS dealer recommended 3-4 Siclids (sp?) [anyone got any info on siclids?] as tankmates but i was considering red eye tetra. any one with any opinions as good tank mates for TB's and the zebra pleco? i want to keep them in the 10 gallon so pls think small

He ment Cichlids. There are thousands of cichlids, some would be ok, some wouldnt. Tiger Barbs can nip fins if not in a big enough group. I would probably get a 1 or 2 more tiger barbs, since they like to be in schools. Anymore and your tank would be overstocked.

Thx. I thought that was what he ment. Any other suggestions for tankmates?

With Brabs its very difficult too tell you who would be good and who wouldnt. Personally i have 6 of them and have been very lucky where ive mixed them in a 72 gallon heavily planted community with 6 Blue Rams, 3 Dwarf Gouramis, etc......

From what i gather, the more comfortable they feel in the tank, the less nippy they are. If you do get new fish and introduce them into the 10 gallon, try re-aranging the tank before you add them.

As for the general fish you can mix with Barbs, pretty much try anything that isnt too slow or doesnt have long fins. Guppies for example will get murdered. You could try Platies, they seem to work well. Or posibly even some Dimaond tetras, Rasboras, or smaller loaches. Youl have to experiment a bit.

Tiger Barbs are aggressive and decently active fish. How many do you have in the tank? Is it four or five? I would round the school out to six and with the Pleco say you are well stocked and not add anything else to that tank.

My green tiger barbs get along well with my black skirt tetras. Both are schools of 5.

My tank is a 30 gallon. I agree with Harlock. I would stick with the pleco and tiger barbs in your 10 gallon.
