Tiger Barbs with Cardinal tetras?

Hey all,

I just recently added 6 tiger barbs to my 72 gallon community tank. So far so good, not much nipping. One of em seems to take a plunge for the gouramis once in a while, but i havent seen any nipped fins. The barbs seem to be playing amonst them selves thus far. Anways, im wondering how a group of Cardinals (7-9) would do with the tiger Barbs. Has anyone tried putting them with Cardinals, if so...whats your experience?

Ive tried to follow the rules with the Barbs by putting 6 in my tank to avoid nipping, but im not sure if this rule applies with small Cardinals.
 
I had some neons in a tank with tiger barbs many moons ago. That didn't work out too well, the neons were always being chased. They died after a while.....not sure if it was due to stress or not but I'm sure it didn't help.

Were your barbs aggresive with the other fish in your aquarium?

I think you'd better forget it. I had tiger barbs that couldn't be housed with smaller fish. My barbs would kill anything that could not defend themselves from their relentless hounding (chasing and nipping). They were MEAN.

I doubt that the Cardinals would make it through the night. Cardinals are way too peaceful for tiger barbs.

I have a 29 gallon tank that has 6 tiger barbs, 9 cardinal tetras, and 3 spotted cories. The tiger barbs have more or less ignored the tetras. They have't nipped any of the fins of the cories either like I thought they might. They dont show much aggression amongst one another. I did buy them when they were young though. It may just depend on the temperament of the tiger barbs you that you get. Good Luck
 
I have a 20 gallon tank with a school of 5 tiger barbs. I recently bought 8 Cardinals about 5 days ago. I have 2 left, the Tiger Barbs have killed them all. They seem to harrass new fish that I put into the aquarium. Eventually they will stop but the Cardinals are too small and weak to withstand the nipping.
