How much and how big should the pellets be? my oscars are about 4 inches long. I'm using the 1mm pellets and they seem small. Thanks

I have never had My own oscar, but i know that many pet stores sell different sized pellets and also sticks, have you tried feeding him frozen food?

i keep cichlids, and they go bonkers for brine shrimp, and also i feed them "hikari cichlid gold" and they are the medium pellets because my fish are about 2-4 inches.

Hmmm, dont they make a larger size pellet?
i didnt even go notice i had gotten the medium sized pellets, but they seem to take them in just fine, or else i would buy smaller sized ones.

I've had oscars for over 20 years. Some will tell you what ever fits in their mouth. Very wrong. Good rule of thumb for pellets is if they can't fit two at a time then its to big. Just because the oscar can fit it in its mouth doesn't mean its the right size. Small to medium sized pellets are fine for most. I don't start mine on large pellets untill they reach full size( 7 inches min.)

They do make a larger pellet, but they are too big for the smaller fish in my tank.My Oscar goes for the medium pellet with gusto though.

I use Hikari Cichlid Gold (medium) pellets, and my Oscar is full grown,13".

Ditto, 12" Medium pellets since he was 4-inches long.

I tried to give him large pellets, but he just spits them out.
So.... I ground up the large pellets and feed them to the community fish.
