Do you think 3 Bala Sharks and about 20 Barbs would do ok? My research suggests that it would be a toss up.

I would like to stock with these fish...

10 Tiger Barbs
10 Green Barbs
6 Corys
3 Balas

Opinions? Is my tank large enough? Although it is a tall tank with not a huge footprint, it seems that my Tigers swim up and down as much if not more then length wise.

Thanks!

Dimensions of your tank would go a very long way for someone assessing whether it is big enough!!! ;-)

is it really a 110 gallon tank?

it would help to know the foot print

I just did some research to make sure I had the footprint correct... (Which I do) but am amazed at what I have found. People were selling this tank for 550 bucks new with pine stand, hood, and 48" light. I got pretty lucky then since I picked up everything for 279 at pet supplies plus. The manager said the add was a misprint, but still honored it. I figured I saved about 50-100 bucks, but now am thinking different.... Sorry that was :OT:

The balas won't be a great mix with the barbs and cories. Adult balas can easily eat an adult barb or cory, and while they are not predatory, they still may snack on smaller fish. While eating a barb won't be more than an annoyance, cories have spines that they lock, and this can suffocate a larger fish. I prefer not to mix fish that can kill each other.

And, even with a 110, 3 balas may outgrow it--3 18 inch fish is a lot!

I thought they only got to about 10 inches. I agree at 18" it would be too much. I've been trying to fill in the blank for a couple of weeks now, and still cannot come up with an appropriate species to do it. It seems the more I research, the more confused I become.

10 Tigers Barbs
10 Green Barbs
6 Corys
?? (somethin a little larger to promote schooling)

:help:

Thanks..

I would not go with balas, only b/c they are so skittish, and I don't really think a 110 is big enough. I hate to disagree with OG, but I did alot of research on balas and have not came up with anyone to keep them bigger than 12 or so inches, even in large tanks. From what I understand, they are fairly short lived compared to many other fish and just aren't around long enough to get that large. I would love some references if OG could provide them, I would love reputable info. from a source I trust. What about just a huge school of tigers? It would look very nice, but I also understand wanting something big too

I havn't figured out how many barbs I can have, but I really didn't want a species tank. I really want to have 2-3 slightly larger fish, corys, and fill the rest in with barbs. So if that means 20, or 30, or even 40, just as long as they are comfortable. I large school would be cool, but I want at least one other species besides corys and Barbs...
