I kept a tinfoil barb along with an oscar, thinking they might be compatible, but the next day, I saw that the barb had scars on its sides, caused by the oscar. Since then, I have separated the barb. I want to know if the scales on the sides of the tinfoil will grow back, or will they look scarred forever.
Here's a pic for ur reference.

Thanks!

I had the same problem but with a JD. They are fine. The fish look like nothing ever happened. Just give them a little time and care.

although tinfoils are compatible oscars, there might be other factors involved as to why it was attacked. oscars like to bully other fish, so if the tank is big enough, your tinfoil can swim away quickly to avoid confrontation. how big is the tank? note that tinfoils prefer to school with their own species and they also get pretty large. what are the water parameters? oscars produce a lot of waste and they build up very quickly. from the picture, i see the bottom of the tank is bare so i hope thats just a quarantine tank. if not, your oscar may be bored and thats why it's picking on the tinfoil. although not essential, its good to have some substrate, large slate rocks or driftwood for the oscar to move around and rearrange so it keeps itself preoccupied.

what size tank were they in? an oscar will attack anything when it comes to territory.

The oscar is in a 55 g tank with a much smaller tinfoil, a silver dollar and a red tail shark. It never attacks these, it was only after I introduced the much larger tinfoil in the pic above, that it started acting like a bully. The tank shown above is not the oscar's tank, but a bare tank I was keeping for Discus. Now I don't know what to do with the tinfoil. I guess I'll return it back after it heals! Thanks for the replies!

Mela Fix and lots of water changes with time and he should be fine. I think you upset the balance of power in the tank.
