All,

So I've seen this thing called an AquaCube (by Tropica) and I like it. It's a hair over 2g (US) and I'm wondering if there are any tiny fishies that would fit in such a setup with a bunch of plants? I was thinking maybe pygmy/sparkling gourami, but wasn't sure. Is there anything smaller / better for having 1 or 2 in a little 2g tank?

(If there's nothing that would work (I don't want miserable cramped fishies), that's OK (I can't even find a place to buy it in the US, so I could probably forget the idea by the time I find a US source for them).)

Thanks,

Liz

you could go with some neons or cardinals, or maybe some rummy nose tetras

if you like gourami you might try the chocolate gourami as seen in my avatar it's max size is 1.5-2 inches, but neon tetra Rose barb and other small fish,

There are some tiny little endler type fish, can't remember what they're called....that would be small enough to keep in a 2 gallon. You'll need a bubbler and small nano filter...(there are small power filters that sell for those little nano cube tanks..I've seen them at PetCo for about 12$)

Anyway, these fish only get about an inch..the females...and the males are even smaller. Some of those with some ghost shrimp might make a nice little setup...in fact, I'm not sure, but I don't think these fish need a heater...wish I could remember what they are called !!

There's someone on this forum who has a pic of them for his avatar.....maybe someone will stop by who knows who I'm talking about...lol....

Sorry I'm not much help...

African dwarf frogs! :)

Thanks everyone. I think I forgot to mention there's no top to this thing, so frogs wouldn't work. Not sure about shrimp (if they'd climb out).

I'll research the endlers - don't know anything about those.

I'd rather avoid fish which are happiest in a school as 2g is a bit small for a school.

Thanks,

Liz

hmmm...any fish can jump out too, so you might look into some sort of top or floating plants. I would only recommend an adf or two, some shrimp, some snails, endlers or a betta. I don't think any kind of tetra or gourami should be kept in a 2g tank :o

Yeesh, EMG have you already forgotten me??? *sniff* *sniff*

There is only one fish that can fit in a 2 gallon tank very well, the least killie/dwarf live bearer, Heterandria formosa, aka the least killie or dwarf live bearer. These guys are hard to come by, these are usually a special order from your pet shop but they are great fish.
The males reach about 1/4 of an inch long at full adult hood and the females are larger at an inch. They are very peaceful fish and thrive in tiny tanks. I own a small colony right now in my 5 gallon. I plan on getting more soon for an outdoor container. But they do well having plants like hornwort floating on the top of the tank and they eat crushed fish flakes.
