What can I do with two one and a half gallon tanks? They have an undergravel filter setup, powered by an airstone, and a hood with a halogen light. I had kept bettas in them but moved them to their own divided 10 gallon tank. My White Clouds have spawned. Could I maybe grow out a couple of the fry in them? What can take colder unstable water temps? Maybe I could grow some food in it? Thanks all.

Live food is a good idea or I would buy a few ghost shrimp or some thing fun liek that.

Yup. I meant incandescent. And El Cheapo it is. The screws rusted on the cover over the light. Is brass harmful to fish? Because I was going to replace them with brass.

I am going to try to culture Daphnia or Microworm. Any experiences with these? Would they do fine in this setup? Any good place for starters?

Thanks

I would only use chemically inert metals in my fish tank fixtures. Since brass oxidizes, I wouldn't use it. But that's just me, and I don't know as much about fishy science as I should.

However, if you are just going to use the tank to culture fish, I would risk it, but that's just me...

I would think brine shrimp would work well that set-up, but I've never cultured anything but fruit flies.

Does anyone know any good sites or posts on live food growing? I have a unused 2 gallon hex that I think would work well but have no idea how to start.

I have found this article which seems informative: http://www.nativefish.org/Articles/EasyLiveFoods.htm

Daphnia it says are sensitive to metals so maybe replacing with brass wouldn't work for them. I think for sure I will try Daphnia for one. For the other I had thought about brine shrimp but read it is difficult, especially as a first attempt to culture any type of food. How difficult is it really?
