I was cleaning away with my Mag-Float last night and went to move a rock to clean next to it. The algea spots seemed odd so I looked closer and discovered that it was not hair algea at all but little white worms about 1/4" long. I scrubbed the glass, did a 30% water change, and replaced the carbon/floss in both filters and didn't see anything reappearing yet this morning. I'm worried that there is some sort of parasite in my tank. The only change in the past 6 weeks was the addition of a plant (bought at Petco). I admit to being lazy and forgetting my water change/filter cleaning this weekend. :o Any ideas, thoughts, or suggestions?

They aren't dangerous worms, nemotodes or planeria I think. They come about due to high levels of food. They are always in the tank but grow in numbers when they get to eat alot. So do your weekly water changes but also use a gravel vacuum and feed your fish less food daily than you do know.

It's a 29 gallon tank and I have 7 tiger barbs, three asstd cories, two killifish, a flying fox, three mollies (one male and two female), and a dwarf pleco. Both of the mollies are pregnant (of course) and one of them was having babies but they get eaten as soon as they are born, just about. There was one hiding in the foliage last night but it was gone after I'd finished cleaning. There are about 7 different kinds of plants as well. I have an Eclipse hood and an internal filter (a Hydor, but I'm using the Whisper cartridges). Oh, and a left-over feeder guppy from the big tank. There were two but someone finally ate the little one, or at least I can't find him anywhere! This tank has been up and running for 5 months.
Edited to add that I forgot that I had started feeding frozen mysis shrimp two weeks ago as well, about three times a week. I've been feeding a lot less lately as well, but hubby is still sneaking them lunch every day. We'll have to chat!
