just saw this on e-bay

a 200w 4 bulb power compact for under $100 with shipping!

seems like a great price (less than half what ive seen elsewhere including shipping)

is this too good to be true?

Couldn't you always rig a few fans in there?

Yes, they still can get real hot. Especially when you throw 4 bulbs so close together with out a fan to cool them off.

thanks for the link. the ebay guy 'aqua-deal' is also selling replacement bulbs. i'll see if he has the true actinics. the link didnt say much about the heat though. do you think it would be ok if i put the light up on legs. i think i saw the legs for $8 on another web site.

It would help, you would just have to watch it to make sure. You probably will loose a lot of light though, especially if you have glass tops.

From what I have read on other sites as well from various owners, is that it is a pretty good deal but you kinda get what you pay for. Still for $100, rig a couple pc fans for $12, and get the legs.

One of my concerns was that, because there are no fans in the fixture itself, that it will get too hot in there. That will affect bulb efficiency and reduce lifetime.
