I would think that the vibrations would stress them, not sure though.

If it's loud enough to seem "loud" to you (as in, you can't hear someone speaking in a normal voice standing a comfortable distance from your head...), it's loud to everything else. Like I said, sound travels differently (and is much more intense) underwater.
