I'm doing a new build, a 125 gallon 6' tank. PetSmart has it for $300 with stand. I'll sell the stand, started building my own. First goal is to create large new area for my 11 year old pictus catfish. They have been in a 55g all these years. Once we moved into our new house, I just placed it in the garage and neglected it for the most part, knowing one day we would build a large tank. Finally after 3 years it's started. They better not die one me now lol. I'll keep the posting updated as I make progress. Some talking points. I'll probably give plants a go. Current filter selection are two fluval 306. I plan on doing many smaller fish instead of larger fish. Stand is 74"x22". It's going on a 12' wall with 9' ceilings. Top of tank should be about 65".
I'm open to recommendations and tips!

I need help from my father in the doors. Hopefully he'll surprise me and have those done when I get home from work lol

Looking good, cute helper too. Are you thinking of pictus with small (bite sized?) fish. I see fat pictus & not much else, unless I misunderstood?

I don't know how much larger the pictus will get in a 125. They are currently 6-7 inches. They don't really touch anything less than half inch. They are very territorial with some other fish though. Mid and upper swimmers they ignore. But over the years, I have seen them kill 4 or 5 plecos. Plecos way to big to eat. I had smaller mollys they never touched. But yes, to your point, I think this is basically their tank until their calling.

I saw that 125g setup last time I was in Petsmart. TopFin is just re-badged Marineland. Unbeatable deal for new tank, glass tops and a stand in that size range. I would imagine a 6ft, 125g tank alone is $300+ to have a shop order one in for you.

I gotta ask though, why bother building a stand for it when it comes with a new stand?

Looking at the stand, I'm not sure how it supports 1400+ pounds. I'm sure it does, but with kids, cats, and a dog; I don't want to have to worry. We also want to make it look like it belongs in the house. Most of the décor is aged and or shabby chic.
I think the BF deal is good. Other sources the tank it $600 alone from what I found.

Full weight of this tank is 1160lbs per Marineland, but I hear you. Figure on substrate and decor, etc. Store bought stands certainly don't look the part. You'll probably be able to easily sell that stand new/unused for $200 or so. Makes that deal so good you can't afford not to get it! LOL!

You talked me into it

Let us know how you make out! Curious how many units (besides one on the floor) will be at stores and if anyone else besides us recognizes the value.
