I just bought a trapdoor snail from my LFS. It is pretty big, maybe 1.5". It has been moving around a lot the past few days and just yesterday I noticed it in my substrate kind of moving back and forth. So, everyday I see him deeper and deeper in the substrate. My tank is a 20g high, planted in eco-complete substrate. Is this normal behavior for a large snail??

Yes, that is normal. In part, that is what makes trapdoor snails so popular. They are great at helping to aerate the substrate. They are nocturnal, coming out during the night and burying themselves during the day.

My trapdoor snail has also been hiding in the substrate at the bottom of my biorb more than normal. I must admit, I thought he must have died, as I didn't see him for about 5 days (between water changes), then just when I was sure I'd have to go hunting for his remains, there he was, large as life. Which actually isn't that large, but you know what I mean. ;) He does seem to be spending more time hidden these days - I was wondering if it was getting a bit warm for him, as I think they prefer slightly cooler temps (my tank isn't heated, but my room is quite warm).
