Treating HITH with Salt

Here is an article on HITH http://www.duboisi.com/diseases/hith.htm
There is no conclusive explanation on what caused HITH. Hexameta was once blamed for the desease, but it is now believed to be present by oppotunity after the pits were formed. So eliminating the Hexameta may have no effect on HITH. I have a strong belief that HITH is species specific, because some cichids, such as African Rift Lake cichlids, never get it. They just die from bloat or other deseases if the conditions were wrong.

Concur with RTR. My acara got slight HITH when the substrate was mucky. New environment for him, better conditions, and the HITH was in remission immediately, with no meds required.

just my 2cents-ime salt helps,i can only go by my exp. w/salt and diseases so please (no flaming).
when my carpenti came up w/these tumor like white fuzzy growths (looked like cauliflower(sp?)and everyone said it was untreatable and that eventually he'd die.so i went ahead and used the salt for a lil over 3 weeks and BANG!!! it shrunk,it was clearing up :D he's still alive and no signs of that disease since.same thing w/a blood parrot that started growing something similar all over his body and his fins were rotting the salt cleared it up in 4 weeks.i don't use meds AT ALL i just stick to my water changes and salt routine(i put aquarium salt in once a month)
my point is something about the salt helps cure imo most diseases.
