I have a 55gal with an ich outbreak and put about 10 spoonfuls of non-iodized salt, then left for work
I came back home today about 24hrs later and some fish are dead, apparently my dad has been refilling the morton salt container with iodized salt :/

my corydoras and plecos are still alive but what do you think this has done to them?

I also didnt disolve the salt before i put it in :/

Iodized salt has never been an issue for me...its concentration shouldn't hurt anything. I use 2 teaspoons per gallon...well dissolved in heated dechlorinated tap water or heated tank water...slowly added over a day or so. Ich always gets worse before it gets better....the salt takes time to work and the life cycle isn't affected immediately....

ohh okay, i just remember reading to use non-iodized salt so i assume idozed salt was bad

My philosphy is that I don't care what medications are used I increase the temp to 88-90 degrees which is necessary to complete the life cycle of ich.

Unless you were maybe using serving ladles the quantity of Iodine in table salt isn't high enough to have killed your fish.

Not dissolving it wasn't an issue either.
One pet supply chain keeps tubs of salt in their tanks and lets it dissolve over time. I hate seeing that, but it isn't killing the fish.

Raising the temp isn't necessary for ich to go through a complete life cycle. It does, however, speed up the life cycle and ensures that the parasite goes through the free-swimming stage during a reasonable treatment period.
