Everytime I change the filter, filter my tank becomes filled with all the crap the filter has trapped. Is there a trick to do this with out all that stuff going back into the tank? thx

-Jay

I usually unplug the filter (I have an HOB) and gently lift it straight up and off the side of the tank and put the whole thing in a bucket. Then I dump the yucky water out of the filter, rinse the media, put it back together and plug it back in. Hope it helps! Lisa

For a hang on back? Turn the filter off, pull the filter off the back of the tank. Dump contents out.

Remember not to lose the white bio thingy.

Unplug the filter, rinse the filter media in tank water in a bucket, squeeze out all the junk, put the media back in, plug in the filter again. Assuming this is for a Hang on Back filter.

the trick is to not over feed  Sorry just had to add that most crap thats in the filter is foods. less food and rinsing off weekly in the bucket of water you took out will insure the filters do not get that dirty.
