Can neon tetras be housed with tiger barbs? I'm asking for a friend who is looking for compatible fish for her small school of neons. I said I thought they would be fine, but the LFS guy said no. I think he is just being anal. Thoughts??

My school of barbs would be way too aggressive for neons as roomates. Their body mass also is quite a bit more than neons, so they would be tough bullies.

My neon tankmates are: zebra danios, swordtails, guppies, harlequin rasboras, cory cats, and glow-light tetras.

I have put neons and tiger barbs together-- it can work.. but most likely wont

I would think maybe with lots of plant cover, but that is risky, I prob. wouldn't.

How big is the tank in question? Maybe some other kind of tetra, or platies, or guppies....but those guys will breed like rabbits, then she'll have fry to deal with, unless you can get just a couple females.

oh, I got it! A female betta. I kept a female betta when I had neons, and there were no problems.

Can neon tetras be housed with tiger barbs? Thoughts??

IMO----Never!! Even if Tigers do not get nippy, they eat faster then Neons and the neons would not get enough food.
