I'm going to be cycling a few tanks in the next few weeks and i've heard tropical science biolabs product nitromax is an excellent bacteria starter but I would like to know if any of you have used it and if so how well did it work? how long did your cycle take with it? any opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Julian

I wonder if the definition of "cycling a tank" is actually a false concept? It's the filter that needs to colonize bacteria or cycle, not the tank.

You can probably cycle a filter without a tank, but you can't cycle a tank without a filter.

When I buy a new canister filter, I just pack half of it with media from an established filter. Then I pack the rest of both filters with some new media. I don't even think about cycling the tank.

If I had no established media, I'd probably just try to run the filter in a bucket and cycle it by adding some ammonia.

Sorry for going off the topic. I don't know anything about that bacteria starter product. Good luck and congrats with the new tanks though.
