turtle pics

Turtles were my first pets as a kid. Where did you get her? I love turtles and I wouldn't mind owning another some day. How large will that turtle get?

Eastern Painteds get about 5-6" for males, 6-7" for females and typically reach full size around 4-5 years old. I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but my turtle is actually wild-caught.

I was swimming in a local pond and she just swam right up to me. I picked her up, having no intention of keeping her, and right then (I swear I'm not making this up) a large Northern Water Snake swam by. Northerns eat baby turtles. I know a snake's gotta eat, circle of life, all that jazz. I just couldn't bear to put this adorable, quarter-sized hatchling turtle back in the pond to fend for herself after seeing that. Judge me however you will. While Milo was born wild (though seriously, has anyone ever seen a turtle that you could call "wild"?), she's certainly a pet now. She's trained to come to people for food. It would be cruel to "release" her now, so don't even ask!
 
Nice, good looking turtle. I have 3 EPTs and a miss. map in my pond right now, two of the 3 EPTs were actually wild-caught. I also just adopted a female RES that will go into the pond when it warms up in the spring.
