It's actually not a snake-neck, it's a Mary River Turtle. But they are in the same family. I thought it was a snake-neck too, so don't feel bad.
Very cool! Jackie, the algae is a Basicladia speciesthat commonly grows on freshwater turtles, and almost nowhere else; one of the five Basicladia species grows on a single species of viviparid snail, while the rest are all turtle-specific. It does not harm the turtle.
