Two betta care questions!

Here are some sites I started with. There is a lot of crossover info. they should be enough to help with whatever arises. Some sites are better than others.

Roan: Just wanted to point out that Mandi's set-up is acceptable as is and that she doesn't have to stress and run out to get something else asap. Also that she didn't necessarily waste money on what she has, and that those things maybe useful to keep around. :)
 
Hey, here is a friendly reminder and warning on Bloodworms. There are many people who are allergic to Blood worms and I am one of them. So if you find yourself with scratchy eyes or just not feeling well after feeding your fishies, it probably due to that.

Hrm, yes and no :)

As I said in my post if you *do* get a bigger tank -- wasn't pushing on that, really. My only concern is the lack of a regulated heater. That, to me, is the only thing really lacking in her set up at this point and time.

Her betta lives FAR better than most, that's for sure. You could consider him a middle-class betta :)

I have read about this but I didn't know that happened to fish keepers...I thought it was only ppl in constant contact with them!! And my husband thought I was crazy for passing this info onto my mom when she was frog sitting!!

I am by no means an expert on bettas either but i thought i mention mine doesnt like FD bloodworms at all. He LOVES hikari betta pellets. He eats them so fast that once i (by mistake) dropped about 8 in and before i could fish them out he had eaten them all.

I just started him on frozen brine shrimp and he goes into total hunting mode with them. He even picks them out from in between the gravel.

Next i'll try some glassworms and possibly daphnia. I think (hope) that should be varied enough to keep him healthy.

Oh and my betta is alone in a 10G with heater, filter and lots of silk plants. (http://media.putfile.com/10GwBetta)

I just did a little landscaping work this week for some pocket money-- $60 has got to be enough for a little heater. Is there any particular type, or certain specs I should look for? Sorry to inundate everyone with these questions, but I don't really trust the salespeople at pet stores. Call me cynical, but I just don't think their top priority is always what's best for my fish. :P

I tried feeding the Grand Funk Master flake food once before, and was amused to see that he only liked the orange-coloured ones. He left everything else for me to scoop up. As for the Hikari staple food, I've heard great things, but balked at the price-- it was about $13 for a little tiny bag! Sure, I guess it goes a long way and it's good for him, but that still seems ridiculous. I'll just keep fiddling around with different foods until I find a system that works for him.

Hrm, I'd say upper middle-class, like mine. Mines in a 6 gallon and yours is in a 10, but I have real plants :)

If I move Jakers to a 10 gallon, with real plants, then he'll be upper class :thm: ;)

On line they run around $15 for what you want. Maybe 20-30$ locally. You want something that is 25 watts or lower that you can set the temperature at.

If you can get something of a lower wattage, that would be good too, but make sure you can set the temperature on it.
