I was wondering if it would be ok to house two female convicts in a tank i'm thinking of doing this because i've read that the coloring of females is a lot nicer and i'm really not set up to house any fry if i were to get a male and female. would there be any agression? and would two female convicts even do well in a tank that size, hopefully after they finish remodeling our house i'll have room for a 40g. well i appreciate all of your advice thanks.

They will be fine in a 20 gallon, they might flair at each other for a while when they are just geting used to the tank and such.
Once they start to establish their own territory(SP?) they will be fine.

They should be fine. A 20 long would be nicer than a 20 tall however. They grow to 4in. You are right thay have nicer coloring and dont get up to 6in.

Cylon i would have to disagree i had a convict that was only about 3 yrs old and was already a good 5 inches and have seen some that were 6 inches at my local pet store but be careful convicts can be mean little devils

:OT: cylon, what kind of fish is that in your avitar?
Its very good looking.

The fish is a Green terror (gold saum) a really nice male, mine look very similar just smaller and with a golden trim to his tail not red (he is only young), as for the the convicts, I've fot 2 females in a 4' and 1 of them has taken over half the tank (very aggressive) nad they only fish that can enter he terriotory are fish that look similar to her (thats what I noticed) which are the other female and two clown loaches (the orange and black strips). I would try, you can always remove one if there are any problems.

I have to disagree to my convicts are 5-6inches and there are 3 of them in a 55g and they are constantley fighting. I would say get one female for now till you have the 40g and then have 2 maybe 3.

Look, read the post! I have had 6 in cons before to.

louda said she had females
4 inches for a female. females have more color in most cases cause they get the orange belly.
6 inches for males
These are averages. Anyone can have a freak fish.

I have over 100 cons.
Doese anyone want one? 2 batches of juvs.

Thanks for the comments on my Green terror. I will be posting a video.

My female is about 4" and is about 3yrs old with a brillently orange belly while the second one is about 3-1/2" and not as stocky but is a peach colour with aqua strips in her fins. BTW when do GTs tails go red, is it a muturaty thing.
