I was just wonderin if i added another filter to my 29 gallon tank, that maybe that would make the water a little clearer maybe and help keep everything workin better ,, plus when i clean one filter the other is still going ?? any ideas or thoughts would be great i currently have a aquaclear..the bigger one its from walmart though...i didnt read this site before i bought it ....any ideas thanx

All of my tanks above ten gallons (and some of those) have at least two filters, a number have more.
It is not possible IMHO to over-filter a tank. Biofiltration is self-limited by the bioload, mechanical filtration is open-ended but may be of limited utility - only trial and error will tell for a particular tank. The only question for me when using multiple filters on a tank is whether or not the current is right or too much for the fish in the tank.
So if your fish are not struggling or hiding in the quieter corners, you are likely to be fine. Staggering the cleaning times of filters is very good practice.

Well i have a bubble wall on the whole back side of my tank ....and now that ive been reading about the currents and stuff im wondering if its too much for them ...they seem to swim in it and have fun but then there are the smaller ones that kinda stay in the corner somtimes (except feeding time) so i wonder if i should take at least half of the wall down ??? thanx for the advice on the filters though!!
two aquaclears is fine.. i have a ac500 running a 29 gallon overstocked tank and the cichlids love the current the filter gives it. but it really depends on how stocked your tank is. two aquaclear 150s (or 100s) would be nice...one on each side. but i think an aquaclear 200 would be enough.. that was what i used to have on this tank for many months and it never did me wrong (even when it was overstocked).
i dont think a canister filter is neccessary for a 29 g... you dont really need to spend the extra money on it when power filters can do the job just fine
if you want clearer water, depending on your aquaclear (if its 200 or above i think) you can add 2 sponges. that will help with the mechanical filtertration. you can also add some filter floss between the two sponges to really make the water crystal clear but you'll need to replace it weekly or so depending on how much it gets clogged up. you dont have to worry about one filter running while you're cleaning the other. if you have one filter, you can just rotate the sponges and rinse out the button sponge in tank water during water changes and move it to the top.. that way you can get rid of gunk and keep all the beneficial bacteria

Tank size has little to do with the utility of canisters IME. I use them down to 10 gallons. Whether that is practical or not is personal choice. Canisters are always my filter of choice until large tanks, where the choice is more likely W/D, but may be multiple canisters.
