Tank one: 5 gallon

Tank two: 10 gallon

Fish one: 1 male guppy

Fish two: 1 female betta.

I put these fish together in the 5 gallon hoping she'd get along with the guppy. He's a male but not very full in fins. They got along for a few days then she got aggressive with him. They are now separated.

I would like to move one of them to the 10 gallon and add some fish.

Who should I put where and with what additions?

I am considering putting the betta in the 5 by herself and putting the guppy in the 10 with some other community fish. I have no idea what to put with him.

I am also considering leaving the guppy in the 5, getting two more males for him to have some companionship. Then putting the female betta in the 10 with a school of small tetras (maybe embers), thinking that a larger group of fish would not be picked upon by her.

What would you do?

i would say betta in the 10 gallon. but thats just because betta's are my favorites.

but they do get along pretty well in a community!

Well, she was peaceful for a few days then chased and nipped at the guppy but I think he was a really poor test fish for her real attitude.

The guppy is not happy solo. I have to get him some companions.

I agree. And I hope I'm not stating the obvious when I say 2 females to 1 male when it comes to guppies. Plattys go well with them too.

I was hoping to house just males as I didn't wish to deal with fry. It's my 5 year old's tank and I am unable to keep setting up tanks to contain all the fry and the natural course of eating the babies is not one I want to have with my sensitive 5 year old.

Will males be ok?

I think I wish to avoid livebearers for this reason....though I do like the look of platys.

I think you'd be fine keeping a couple male guppies and a few other community fish in the 10 gallon tank. Oto's are fun bottom feeders and window lickers. If you want amusing, fast moving lil fish try some danio's. I currently keep guppies and platys but keep the males / females seperated until I want to generate some fry.

Danios are active and interesting but I am concerned that a 10 is not enough space for them to truly swim like they wish to do. From what I've read here, a 20 long is about the smallest they wish to be housed in.

A few platys are definately an option.

I agree, danios need some free swimming space for the activity they generate.
