GOLDFISH... this was of course before i started doing some real research on this website... so i went out today before i stumbled on this site 4 tiger barbs and 4 mollies.. (i'm such a noob). Seein as how i heard that goldfish are just unhealthy fish in general, do i have to worry about my water bein unhealthy water for other fish? like bacteria that the nitrate and ammonia tests don't pick up? do i have to worry bout ick or fin rot because i cycled my 20 gallon tank with 2 goldfish? i did a 40% WC when i got my new fish today so i dunno if i'm ok or not... dang i am lost in this new fish world. someone please :help:

If your goldfish are healthy after going through a cycle then they shouldn't pass on any health problems to your new additions. I would however watch the barbs, they tend to nip fins.

haha some ppl say its bad, but hey i did my 10gal with 3goldfish for a month and now i got angel fishes, neon tetras, glowlights and, clown loach ghost shrimps and nothing had died and its been 2 months.

But if your scared your waters not clean enough i recomend you getting 2 20/30gal filters (one on each side) w/ Bio layer filters where the bacteria(sp) you need to keep your water healty and clean live and grow. and the large amount of filterage is good cause it dose more work. (i got 2 20gals) And some tap water clarifier, i use Tetra Aquas water clarifier and it turns your water blurry for 5mins then clear as glass after.

 I am not sure how you gather goldfish as being unhealthy. I would not worry about that but what you have to worry about is how to care for your goldfish, and you other fish as they are both from differing sorts of needs. The new inhabitants are not at any more risk for bacteria than any other fish being there first Some of the prettiest and healthiest fish I have seen are goldfish, or koi.:coffee2:

Goldfish are not healthy to feed other fish, simply because there is more fat and cartiledge than nutritional matter as a rule. As far as feeders, there are much better options.
They are a fine fish to keep in an aquarium for those who want to keep them. They require space and good maintenance to remain healthy though. They are messy eaters and huge waste producers. they also grow fairly large depending on what type of goldfish you have.

Saucz, do you have test kits? Water clarifier is not necessary, in general, the less chemicals you add to the water, the better. You might consider retrurning the goldfish, they will probably get a bit too large for the tank. You will also need to do more frequent/larger water changes with them to keep the water in good shape. Do you know what kind of barbs they are?

Not good. Fish also need space. Try locking your self up in a small closet with 3 other people.

Can I choose the people? ;)

darn you beat me to it ><

I was going to say the same thing.

half the fish in that tank will outgrow it so you might want to rethink your stocking choices Tip
