Three days ago, I caught one of my neons having some sort of seizure. He was darting all over the place and spinning rapidly. A few times he would go head over tail fin, and spin around. When calmed down, he was floating on his side. I assumed that he was not long for this world. The next day, he was alive. Two days later, he was having another "seizure," but he lives on. I noticed some wierd patches near his head. They appeared to be a sort of gray or tan. I always caught him doing it when I came in the room at night and I had just turned the light on.

Yes, I'm very well aware that they lose their color when the light is off, but there is one area on the neon's body that has no color regardless-just a grey spot. And I use no chemicals.

Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: about 5

if the neon is from the far east it could be genetics/raising conditioning. those neons are the most disfigured fish i have ever seen. always check to make sure that they are from florida

Neon tetra diseae, maybe? I never had it so it's a guess.

Spinning Crazy

This has happened to me!!! It's absolutely freaky...It's like they're having a seizure - they swim crazily all over the tank, but they also are spinning somersaults.
My filter had let out air 'cause the tubing was clogged and perhaps this caused the fish to have stress or maybe the fish was thrown into the rocks?? This spinning seizure thing lasted for about 2 minutes and I thought that he was going to die, but the next thing I knew he was back to normal.

Haha! So im not the only one either!

I have a school of about 30 in my 90 gal, one of them ALWASY stays away from the group, and does the seizure thing at night… its VERY strange; but (s)hes been doing it for about a month now… still hasn’t dies; no discoloration on mine mind you…
