I want to get the meanest badest cichlid. I want a fish that can take on a male dovii and his ***** (my roommate has a pair). Should I get A dovii or a umbee? Anyone that has experience housing these two breed together, please share with me. I know agression level can also depend on the fish itself, but what is the majority percentage? I've heard umbees are the meanest, but I also heard doviis are the meanest? So who's SEEN and KNOW the fact?

got a BIG tank to put either one in? surely you're not going to put both in the same tank and let one kill the other just to prove who's the "real champ?"

Before you buy either, you need to prepare by getting a large tank. 300 gallons minimum for either. Both fish obain an adult size of 20+ inches. I have both. Both species are aggressive. Proportionaltely there are smaller Central and South American cichlids with similar attitudes. Mean is an attribute acredited to humans, not fish. If you are looking for pure aggression, some of the smaller fish will suffice.

If by "Taking On" you mean putting the two species in the same tank and letting them fight it out...I would instead recommend getting a guinea pig. Responsible fishkeeping is not only a challenge...it's a responsibility. You wouldn't fight dogs...why fish?

**** that a really nice umbee Mojo!!!! What size is he or she? How long it took u to get him that big? I"m looking for one now online but havn't found anyone selling them yet.

The Umbee above belongs to my friend Cichlidscene. I'm not sure how old it is...four or five years for sure. You won't see another specimen like this anywhere in the U.S.

If you are interested in buying one, contact Jeff Rapps at www.tangledupincichlids.com.

I have the Panamanian Green Umbriferum.

That is one badass lookin dovii man. The umbee too, but I've seen the umbee's picture b4..
But my question is dovii or umbee? Who's the tougher fish? So far Im nowhere near from getting my answer. Any vet out there that really know the answer? I would probably get both of them and put them together to find out if no one knows.. But umbees don't get agressive til theyre about 5 in. or so, I heard. So It would take a while to get the real fact.
No liv2, I will never let one kill the other.. 1 of my roommate did that.. He let his pair of doviis kill all the other cichlids, including the trimac I gave him.. He's one of the stinjiest (stingiest)person I know.. He would rather keep the fish and let them die b4 giving em away.. I know, because he's been my roommate for 3 years now.. He is so stingy and selfish.. He only think of profiting and never want to sacrifice. I feel sorry for all the dead fish.
Anyways, back to my question..

Mojo pretty much summed it up already. Plus you said it yourself...it depends on the individual fish. Either fish is certainly capable of killing the other on any given day, but does it really matter? There's always a bigger, badder fish out there to take away the 'Championship belt.' That's why Great Whites are at the top of the food chain.

come on Slappy.. Im talkiin about doviis umbees. From what I've learned so far, the two meanest cichlids are the dovii and the umbriferum.. And my question regards to those two ONLY.. You guys are bringing in other cichlids, guiniea pigs, and great white sharks. lol... If I wanted the meanest fish and if it didnt matter what size, I'd get a betta(my favorite).. I know it depends on the individual fish. Theres probably an oscar out there that can beat up a dovii of the same size, but the ratio is very slim. Im saying in a majority percentage.. OK. For example, a team of 25 dovii's and a team of 25 umbees. They are all the same size. Then we have 25 single Dovvi vs umbee fights. Which team would have more wins? What Im try to know is out of those two breeds, which breed is superior at brawling. And Im just talkin bout those two only. Unless you know of a tougher cichlid breed. I think my question is real simple to understand. Mojo did not sum up anything. As of right now, noone is even near my question. Anyone that's ever house these two together b4 can share their fight results.. Thanks anyways though guys..
