Tonight I was looking in my 28 gallon when I saw a very tiny something. At first I thought it was a mosquito larvae or a brine shrimp and was wondering how any survived (its been about a month since I fed live food). Upon closer inspection it turned out to be the tiniest baby fish I have ever seen! Although my only other experience is with mollies, so no surprise there. :grinyes:

Its either a Threadfin rainbow or White Cloud Minnow, although I'm leaning towards the Threadfins since the tank temp is 76-77, a little higher than the White Clouds prefer. Considering how my fish react to mosquito larvae/brine shrimp, I doubt there will be any survivors. Plus I don't have any food tiny enough to feed the babies. I'm just glad my fish are happy enough to reproduce! Maybe next time I will be a little more prepared and try to raise some. :headbang2:

I tried to take a picture, but its difficult when it is about this big --> --. clear with only 2 black dots for eyes.

Thats so cool! Its nice to know your fish are happy! :)

very kool. i think it would more likely be a white cloud since threadfins are not easy to breed but white clouds are. seperate the fry and feed it liquid fry food, infosuria, or green water. time will tell what it really is. good luck.

My guess would be White Clouds too. I had some a few years ago that bred in 76-78 degree water, so they will breed in warmer temps. Good luck if you were able to catch any survivors and I'm sure there will be a next time if not! Congrats!

Congrats! If you did want to try and raise the baby, you could also feed it Hikari's First Bites food, which is finely ground, practically powder. I think you could keep the baby in a breeder net inside your main tank for a few weeks, that way you wouldn't have to set it up in its own small tank immediately.

Oh, I'm so glad to hear the White Clouds are ok (and even happy enough to breed) in my tank. I felt so guilty for having them in there when I thought they liked lower temperatures. I just didn't have the heart to trade them in since they have been with me from the very start. Now I'm extra glad I didn't!

I have the First Bites food...I don't know why I didn't think to try it. I haven't seen any babies since that day so I'm guessing they were eaten. Maybe next time! :)
