Updated Photos

Is that 30 gal 3 ft long? Mine is. That tank pic looks a lot longer, though. Very nice, bright, picture. I laughed at the photo of the zebra danios. Those quick little buggers are hard to get a picture of, aren't they?

kveeti -- yup, 36" long (so the semi aggressives have enough prowl room).

Molino -- he's about 4-5", which is about as large as they get (from what I've read). He's gotten more active lately as I added more and more cover. They're entirely rock dwellers, so he naturally hangs around that cave but does swim around from time to time (think he's the reason I only have 7 Danios now instead of the 10 I originally bought).

Yes, Danios are quick, but not as quick as the Odessa barb, it's like a lightning bolt buzzing around after those tetra :p

Lookin good. I've never seen a 30 gallon looking like that. What are the measurments?

For sure I know it's 36" long, think it's about 10 inches deep and maybe 15 tall... but I didn't keep the specs and I'm not home to take measurements.

Purchased this from my LFS for $270, which included the 150W heater, Millenium 3000 filtering system, lid and light, and lots of gravel. A tad pricey (when compared to private sale prices or Walmart specials), but I get some perks of buying big from my LFS (free advice, etc).

*edit - updated the measurements, think the height/depth measurements were a bit off

Maybe it's the way you've set it up that gives it the appearance of size, but it looks bigger than my 30g.

I like the look of it Stoo. Have you considered natural coloured gravel or do you prefer the multi-colour?

BTW, have you noticed how no-one uses your username when replying to your posts? :D

lol

But sometimes it's worth it just to read "I agree with stoopid", which has happened several times on other forums. :p

Official unofficial dimensions are 36x17x12 (just measured).

I was a newb at gravel choice time, if I could do it all again I'd probably go for a richer white/blue or natural gravel. The gravel matters little to me, as gawdy goes with just about anything. :D

LOL! It doesn't match anything, so it doesn't contrast with anything either ;) Sound thinking. I'm with stoopid :D

Here is a plan of action I was going to take to add flourite to my tank, so it might work with yours if you want to add the different gravel badly enough:

(a) Rinse the snot out of the new gravel. I mean put it in the rinse cycle five times and then soak it with a firehose after powerwashing at the carwash after a three week soaking in a 20 gallon tub.

(b) Get a clear plastic tube around 3" in diameter and about 2 feet long and a scoop that is more narrow than the tube opening.

(c) Hold the clear tube vertically on the existing gravel bed and pour the new gravel (is it rinsed thoroughly?) with the scoop into the tube until you have about 2 - 3" of gravel standing in the tube.

(d) Gently and slowly lift the tube until the desired thickness of gravel is deposited on the old gravel bed. Carefully move the tube around the deposit area until the tube is empty of the new gravel.

Cover only half the tank bottom surface as you don't want to overwhelm the nitrite and ammonia eating abilities of the remaining old gravel. Cover one more quarter in two weeks and cover the remaining portion two weeks after that. If my bio-reasoning is unsound, please correct me.

I added new pics, traded in the Calvus and Ahli for a Ngara Flame Tail, got a second 15g tank and started adding to that...
